RECOMMENDED READING

Though I enjoy the classics, below are some novels that I feel are exceptional. Check out the author's websites by clicking on the book.

James R. Olson is an award winning author who has the ability to touch every emotion with his explicit and lyrical prose and realistic dialogue. Whether he's describing the stark reality of a situation or the beauty of a scene, his words will weave their way into your heart and soul, holding you to the very end of each book. And the experience of reading his work will stay with you touching all your senses—visual, auditory, taste, smell and touch—long after the stories are finished. It is easy to see why he's won such prestigious awards.

His general fiction is exceptional. Once again, Jim Olson has created a masterpiece in The Vagabond Healer, which was nominated for the 2008 Pulitzer Prize. I've enjoyed all his books, but his one stands out above the rest. The ability to come up with unusual but believable plots, characters and scenes makes his books engrossing and hard to put down. Right away, the reader is drawn to the characters, particularly Eddy and just when you think you have everything figured out, the story twists and turns and leaves you not ever wanting the story to end. I highly recommend this book but make sure you have plenty of time to read it in one sitting. You won't want to put it down. Thanks for a lovely experience because I felt like I was actually right there living this book.

His most recent novel, An Eagle Unchained is a political thriller that has been receiving rave reviews. You can read more about both of these books on his web site, www.booksbyolson.com.

The historical novels — Ulzana and Brother — enlighten us as to how life was among Native Americans and will bring smiles to your lips and tears to your heart. The powerful words will leave you remembering the characters' lives for a long, long time.

His mystery novels are books only a talented artist could write. Never have I thought I would sympathize with the "bad guy" but that's just what happened in The Paymaster. And who's to say he's not right? Where is the defining line between good and evil? This story left me reassessing my judgment of others and is one I'll never forget. And his newest, The Pentagram is eerie and full of excitement. Don't read it at night alone!

Check his site often. Olson is a prolific writer and I suspect he will have another novel available soon!

Marsha Faulkner has penned an exciting debut novel. On That Note is a romantic suspense that'll keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen to Beth Carlson as she tries to stay one step ahead of a cunning assassin. The story runs the gamut of emotional involvement. You'll laugh, you'll cry, but you won't forget this novel!

And if action/adventure stories are your choice, Poisoned Paradise by S.R. Roche will not disappoint you. You'll be transported to some exotic, little known places as she immerses you in the intricate plot of this novel. Her articulate prose and surprise protagonists make this a fine read.

Every once in a while, a novel comes out that is able to draw the reader into the story so dramatically that you have the sense of being part of the main character's life. In her first novel, Sheila Bolt Rudesill is able to do just that in Precious Children, Coveted Child.

Annie, a pediatric nurse who longs for a child of her own, will tug at your heartstrings as this emotional love story unforlds. It will bring hope to those who wonder about blessings and teach us about something higher than our own will.

TO BE RELEASED SOON

Tangles Webs of Desire by Vosta Michele is a contemporary, romantic journey of one woman, searching for love, family and acceptance, whose quest forces her to identify the fine line between prevalence and destiny.
